Que sí. Que el dicho es «dentro de cien años, todos calvos». Pero es que al ritmo en que se producen los acontecimientos hoy en día, en cien años es posible que nos haya vuelto a crecer el pelo.
Que la plebe es desmemoriada por naturaleza, también es algo sabido. Bien sea por su notable capacidad para perdonar, bien por la increíble facilidad con que se adapta a las nuevas circunstancias, lo cierto es que en pocos días casi todos hemos reemplazado la indignación de que fuéramos poseidos en tal o cual momento, por una cierta actitud de resignación.
Tomemos como ejemplo esta noticia que afecta nada menos que al presidente alemán, Christian Wulff.
Este señor, pidió prestado medio millón de euros a una pareja de amigos empresarios para costear una casa para su segunda mujer, Bettina, cuando gobernaba Baja Sajonia, en 2008. Pero la gota que colmó el vaso fue el intento de Wulff de frenar la publicación de todo esto a través de una llamada telefónica al director del diario Bild, llena de amenazas, informa El Mundo.
Hasta aquí, todo normal, porque así es como quienes tienen influencias suelen conseguir lo que quieren; aunque ese afán desmedido de lucro no conozca límites y sirva para obtener ingentes cantidades de dinero, que luego se trasladan a paraísos fiscales después de haber tomado todas las medidas para sortear las obligaciones fiscales con el propio país. Esto también es normal… O por lo menos, bastante frecuente. ¡Se habla tanto estos días de Iñaki Urdangarín…!
Obviamente, cuando se conocen estas cosas —y ya se encarga la prensa de divulgarlas— se exigen medidas para evitar que se vuelvan a repetir y y se piden condenas para el corrupto, que suelen aplicarse con poca ejemplaridad según entiende generalmente la plebe, porque además, el dinero casi nunca se recupera y el delincuente suele acabar visitando los platós de televisión donde cuenta sus «hazañas» después de haber obtenido unos pingües beneficios y disfrutando del fruto de sus corruptelas, unos pocos años después de haber salido de la cárcel, si es que llegó a visitarla.
Pero lo del presidente alemán va más lejos.
Tras las numerosas peticiones de dimisión que le llueven desde todos los ámbitos y mientras la coalición de Angela Merkel está tomando precauciones ante la posibilidad de verse en la situación de tener que sustituirlo, este individuo se mofa de nuestra inteligencia y se jacta de nuestra falta proverbial de memoria. Así, le ha dicho a sus colaboradores que «en un año, estará todo olvidado».
Lo malo es que tiene razón. En menos de ese tiempo, quizás solo unos pocos recuerden su nombre, su delito y su burla para nosotros.
Porque en un año y si las cosas no han cambiado, tendremos preocupaciones más urgentes en nuestra propia casa, que la de dedicar una ínfima porción de nuestro tiempo a recordar que la corrupción también reside en Alemania, que es la que nos exige recortes salariales, incremento de horas laborales, retraso en la edad de jubilación y otras cosas que nos afectan el bolsillo de manera más directa.
Pero es bueno saber que la Merkel también tiene ropa sucia que lavar en su casa, aunque eso no nos indulte de preparar nuestra propia colada, que se amontona en cestos cada vez más numerosos donde los trapios sucios, ya hieden.
Aunque sea por el simple hecho de llevar la contraria, recordemos a ese individuo -corrupto como el más corrupto- que preside Alemania, que tenemos más memoria de la que nos concede.
Que dentro de un año, y más, se le siga recordando como un Gran Corrupto. Que el delito no prescriba al menos en nuestra memoria.
Tenemos la justificación; tenemos los medios.
